Police Divisions

The Criminal Investigation Division is tasked with the investigation of all crimes that require special attention or expertise. The detectives assigned to CID are trained in crime scene analysis, child abuse investigation, homicide and narcotics investigation, as well as interview and interrogation techniques. Detectives are assigned to any burglary or robbery as well as follow up investigations on domestic violence, child abuse, drug crime, gun crime or any incident where follow up investigations are required.

The Fugitive Division is tasked with the service of felony and misdemeanor arrest warrants obtained by police officers and citizens through the City Court of East Ridge. These warrants are served throughout the state on suspects in criminal cases. The Fugitive Division is also responsible for the service of criminal summonses and subpoenas and the booking and transporting of prisoners to the Hamilton County jail.

The Communications Division, which dispatches all police, fire-rescue and emergency medical calls in the City of East Ridge, is located in the Hamilton County 911 Communications Center on Amnicola Highway. This state of the art facility consolidates the resources of several departments, including East Ridge Police and Fire Departments, Chattanooga Police and Fire Departments, Red Bank and Signal Mountain Police and Fire Departments, Hamilton County Sheriffs Department, and Hamilton County Emergency Services. 

The Records Division is responsible for the maintenance, entry, and processing of police and fire reports. The initial reports taken by officers are entered into a relational database. Records handles offense reports, arrest reports, crash reports, and traffic citations, entering and maintaining about 10,000 reports a year.

The Records Division is also responsible for customer service. The Records staff handles requests for incident reports and other items. This includes copies of Offense Reports, Arrest Reports, Crash Reports, Beer Cards, and Fingerprint Cards. There is a nominal charge for copies of reports and on each fingerprint card.

Fingerprint cards are only available on Wednesdays at the East Ridge Police Service Center from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

The East Ridge Police Department maintains a fully-equipped S.W.A.T./Special Operations Team made up of members of both the Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Division.

In the event of a serious confrontation with a violent offender, high risk, arrest/search warrants, barricaded suspect, or school/workplace violence calls, S.W.A.T. officers are deployed to take tactical control of the situation in an effort to contain and defuse the situation.
